Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve thermal efficiency of a rotary internal combustion engine, by leaving a portion of combustion gas in an ignition chamber formed in an ignition plug, igniting fuel gas in combustion chambers formed in the outer peripheral surface of a rotor by the heat of said residual combustion gas left in the ignition chamber, and mixing the residual combustion gas with supercharged air in an expansion chamber for causing re-combustion of the same.
CONSTITUTION: Combustion chambers 12a are moved toward an ignition port 14. Compressed fuel gas introduced into an ignition chamber 15 of an igniting means 17 is ignited and combusted by an ignition coil 16, and combsution gas is ejected into combustion chambers and then expanded into the entire space of a confined chamber A1. When a circular rotor 4 is rotated, the ignition port 14 is closed by the rotor 4, so that a portion of high-pressure, high-temperature combustion gas is left in the ignition chamber 15. When the rotor 4 is further rotated, compressed air in a supercharged-air chamber 13a is introduced into the chamber A1 and combustion gas is re-combusted and expanded in chamber A1. By the pressure produced by the expansion of combustion gas, a partition vane is pushed forward and rotor 4 is rotated further.
