Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve durability of ignition plug against heat as well as inflammability and combustibility of mixture, by producing mixture by injecting fuel onto the inner wall surface of combustion chamber, and injecting plasma gas into the mixture from a plasma injection type ignition plug.
CONSTITUTION: When the piston comes near to the top dead point, fuel is injected into combustion chamber 2 from fuel injection valve 3 and forms mixture through its evaporation. Simultaneously, a high voltage is produced in secondary coil 24b by the function of cam 21 and spark discharge is caused in discharge space 11. Here, since insulation in discharge space 11 is ruptured, a relative low voltage can cause spark discharge and the spark discharge is maintained by power source 31 of low-voltage power circuit 20b. The plasma gas thus produced by the spark discharge is injected into combustion chamber 2 from port 12 for igniting and combusting mixture.
