Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a sand mold for casting of superior strength of sand mold, heat resistance during pouring, collapsing property after pouring, etc. by beforehand treating silica and with compound of alkalimetals and alkaline earth metals and accelerating vitrification.
CONSTITUTION: Compound of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals such as sodium hydroxide, water glass and the like is mixed uniformly to silica sand for casting at about 2.0W5 parts based on 100pts.wt. of silica sand and is reacted at high temperatures to accelerate vitrification. An organic polymer is added at 0.3W5 parts to 100 parts of this sand and these are agitated and uniformly mixed to retain binding power. The use of this mixture yields the sand mold for casting of superior beauty of the sand mold and casting surface, etc.
