Abstract

PURPOSE: To mass-produce easily and surely graphite moldings with superior oxidation resistance by mixing boric acid into graphite interlaminar compound particles after which the mixed material is expanded by heating at a specified temp. and press-molded.
CONSTITUTION: 10pts.wt. or less, preferably 2W5pts.wt. of boric acid are mixed into 100pts.wt. of graphite interlaminar compound particles obtd. by treating graphite with a mixture of concd. sulfuric acid and sodium nitrate. The resulting molding material is then expanded by heating at 1,000W1,500°C for a short time and press-molded. Since the oxidation preventing performance of the molding extends to its interior, the oxidation resistance of the molding itself is not lowered even if the molding is subjected to mechanical working such as cutting or boring.
