Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title pellets having enough strength to be protected from disintegrating even in a hermetically sealed electric furnace of large capacity by mixing dust from a dry dust collector into a cake from the wet dust collector of a ferroalloy electric furnace under specified conditions after which the resulting binder is added to raw material fine ore in a restriced ratio, pelletized, and fired.
CONSTITUTION: Dust from a dry dust collector is mixed into a cake of high water content from the wet dust collector of a ferroalloy electric furnace so that the ratio of CaO/SiO2, MgO/SiO2 or (CaO+MgO)/SiO2 is regulated to 0.2W1 and the water content of the mixt. becomes 20W30%. 3W8 parts as dry basis od the resulting binder are added to 100 parts of fine ore, pelletized, and fired at 1,100W1,300°C in an oxidizing atmosphere. By this method fired pellets of high strength escapable from disintegration powdering are obtd. without requiring expensive bentonite or org. binder, and the pellets are superior to pellets, in strength, obtd. by a method such as ordinary temp. hardening or special aging in an autoclave.
