Abstract

PURPOSE: To control automatically stage switching operations in the beginning of delivery from a mountain-high pile by radiating ranging beams in any two-dimensional direction from a range finder provided on an end of a boom and using supersonic wave to making sure always the position of the mountain-high pile.
CONSTITUTION: A range finder 44 is provided on an end of a boom 14 of a reclaimer 12 to detect a relative distance between the end of the boom 14 and the pile 10. In the beginning of stage switching for delivery from the top of the heaped-up pile 10, the range finder 44 is controlled with respect to the scanning of ranging beam R in the elevatory and azimuthal directions so that the ranging beam R is directed approximately in the direction of a tangent to a slant end surface of the pile 10. Thus, stage switching operation is carried out by detecting the relative distnace between the end of the beam 14 and the mountain-high pile.
