Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent cracking at the casting and improve low-temperature toughness in particular by pouring cast steel contg. the specific amount of Ni and performing knock-out immediately after the completion of freezing and cooling the same as quickly as possible up to just above the transformation temperature of bainite.
CONSTITUTION: Steel contg. 8.5W12% Ni is cast and immediately after the completion of freezing, knock-out is performed and the casting is quickly cooled to just above the transformation temperature of bainite. The subsequent cooling is accomplished slowly or a time exceeding 100hr or at cooling rates of ≤3°C/hr. In the case of products requiring stringent mechanical properties such as machine parts for the LNG, the steel of 0.01W0.1wt% C, ≤0.15wt% Si, ≤0.9wt% Mn, 8.5W 12wt% Ni, 0.15W0.5wt% one or two kinds of Mo, W, and Fe for the remainder in the composition of target steel is used.
