Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce treating cost remarkably, by dehydrating primarily pptd. sludge as it is, and by dehydrating excess sludge by freezethaw treatment without mixing the primarily pptd. sludge with the excess sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Primarily pptd. sludge and excess sludge are existences in general in about 6:4 ratio. The primarily pptd. sludge is led to a thickner 1a, where it is concentrated to about 5W7% solid matter concn. by natural sedimentation, then dehydrated by a dehydrator 4a e.g. a filter press to form dehydrated cake. The excess sludge is concentrated in a thickner 1b to about 1W1.5% solid matter concn., then to about 8% solid matter concn. by centrifugal separator 2. After adjusted to about pH3, the concd. excess sludge is led to a freeze-thaw unit 3, where it is frozen, then melted once again. Susequently it is dehydrated by a dehydrator 4b to be dischargedas the dehydrated cake. The primarily pptd. sludge and the excess sludge are allowed to be dehydrated after mixed. This method the treatment cost remarkably compared with conventional method.
