Abstract
PURPOSE: A cephem derivative is made to react with a thiol of thiadiazole to produce the titled compound that has strong bactericidal activity against a wide range of microorganisms safely and effectively in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction of 7-(1H-tetrazol-1-ylacetamide)-3-(benzimidazol-2- yl)thiomethyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid or its salt with a compound of formula II (R is H, methyl) is conducted in a solvent such as N,N-dimethylformamide, preferably in the presence of an acid catalyst such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric aicd to give a compound of formula III or its salt. The starting material, the compound of formula I, is obtained by the reaction of 7-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl-acetamide) cephalosporanic acid with 2-mercatobenzimidazole.
