Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (ring A is phenyl or nitrogen-containing six-membered ring; R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is H, lower alkyl or characteristic group of an α-amino acid).
EXAMPLE: N-( 1-Ethyl-1, 4-dihydro-6, 7-methylenedioxy-4-oxoquinoline-3-carbonyl)alanine.
USE: An antibacterial agent effective to various bacteria, and an agent effective to enhance the pharmaceutical activity of other antibacterial agents.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting a compound of formula II (ring A' is the same as the ring A provided that when it contains a reaction- inhibiting group such as amino, OH, etc., the group is protected) or its reactive derivative with an α-amino acid of formula III (R'2 is the same as R2 provided that when it contains a reaction-inhibiting group such as amino, OH, etc., the group is protected) in water or an organic solvent such as ethanol under cooling or moderate heating.
