Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently provide high purity alkali vanadate by a method wherein a specific amount of iron salt is added to leaching solution of alkali chromate contg. alkali vanadate, the alkali vanadate is transformed to insoluble coarse particles at a specific pH, and then separated.
CONSTITUTION: Alkali chromate leaching solution obtained from chromium ore generally contains alkali vanadate and aluminate. Neutralization by acid easily removes Al components but alkali vanadate remains as impurity. To remove it, the leaching solution is added with iron salt consisting of trivalent sulfate or nitrate in amount equivalent to one or more Fe/V (molar ratio) and pH is adjusted to 6.5W11. This causes a reaction to form alkali vanadate coarse particles which are insoluble and easy to separate. Thus, high-purity alkali chromate is provided in high separation and cleaning efficiency. In the above process, aluminum component may be made to insoluble at the same time as alkali vanadate.
