Abstract

PURPOSE: To precipitate and remove borofluorides in a short time by the procedure in which aluminum sulfate and ferric chloride as main agent and aqueous ammonia as assistant are added to a water containing borofluorides to decompose the borofluorides and then calcium hydroxide is added to the water.
CONSTITUTION: Aluminum sulfate and ferric chloride as main agent and an assistant, such as aqueous ammonia, ammonium sulfate, ammonium chloride, or urea, are added to a water containing borofluoric acid and the borofluorides of heavy metals to decompose the borofluorides. Then calcium hydroxide is added to the water to convert the decomposition products into insoluble fluorides for sedimentation and also part of the products is adsorbed in the main agent used for decomposition and then precipitated. Then, the precipitates are subjected to a solid-liquid separation. Thus, the amount of the chemicals used can be saved, the decomposition time can be shortened, and most of the borofluorides and heavy metals are removed concurrently.
