Abstract

PURPOSE: To correct the difference in strength after the reaction with certainty and uniform the quality of coke, by carbonizing coal wherein a mixed coal having a higher strength after the reaction than in the lower part is placed in the upper part of a carbonaization chamber.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed coal A adjusted to exhibit a lower strength than ordinary mixed coal is charged into a carbonization chamber 1. A mixed coal B adjusted to exhibit a higher strength after the reaction than the charged coal A is then charged to carbonize the coals A and B. The mixing ratio between the mixed coals A and B is determined to make the strength after the reaction in the lower part produced only from the mixed coal A in agreement with the strength after the reaction in the upper part produced only from the mixed coal B. Several types of mixed coals may be prepared and charged into the coke oven in plural layers in the vertical direction. Alternatively, the mixed coals may be charged to give the mixing ratio changing continuously from the coal A to B in the vertical direction.
