Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to prevent a pyrolyzer from clogging and to obtain a high-quality carbon black, by specifying a ratio of the diameter of a prolysis zone to that of the bottom of the pyrolyzer and a ratio of the length of the prolysis zone to the total length of the pyrolyzer.
CONSTITUTION: A vertical pyrolyzer 1 for the production of carbon black is so constructed that a ratio of the diameter D' of pyrolysis zone 3 to the diameter D of the bottom of the pyrolyzer 1, D'/D, is 1,2-2,2 and a ratio of the length L' of the prolyzsis zone 3 to the total length L of the pyrolyzer 1, L'/L, is 0.2W0.7. A raw material for carbon black, such as acetylene, is introduced through feed pipe 6 by means of raw material feeder 5, into the pyrolysis zone 3, where it is prolyzed to afford carbon black, and them the reaction mixture is introduced to maturing zone 4, where an unreacted hydrocarbon in the carbon black is decomposed. Since the pyrolysis zone 3 is so constructed as above described, a rising gas stream is formed along the inner wall in the pyrolysis zone 3, and flows into the center portion together with the raw material fed, forming a circulating stream, which uniformalizes a temperature in the pyrolysis zone.
