Abstract

PURPOSE: To collect a gas rich in hydrocarbon and one rich in hydrogen separately to attempt the effective use of coke oven gas, by separating and recovering the evolving gas of an oven in each specific time interval within the time required from the charge of coal into the coke oven to the completion of its carbonization.
CONSTITUTION: The titled method utilizes the fact that the ratio of the time of evolution of a gas rich in hydrocarbon and that of a gas rich in hydrogen is constant over an entire carbonization time, in spite of change in the carbonization temperature of the coke oven. In this process, the gas evolving (having a large content of hydrocarbon) during an initial 55W75% period of the entire time required from the charge of coal into the coke oven to the completion of the carbonization and the gas evolving (having a large content of hydrogen) in a remaining 45W25% period of the entire time are collected separately.
