Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high hardness sintered body with enhanced machinability by sintering cubic system and/or wurtzite type BN crystals and carbide and metal binders in a predetermined ratio at high temp. and super high pressure.
CONSTITUTION: 40W95vol% Cubic system and/or wurtzite type BN crystals and 5W60vol% binders are used. About half or more of the wurtzite type crystals are converted into cubic system ones by sintering. The amount of a carbide binder contained as one of the binders is equal to or larger than the amount of a metal binder as the other binder. The carbide binder is made of TiC or composed of ≥50vol% TiC and one or more among the IV, V and VI group metal carbides, nitrides and borides such as WC, Mo2N and TiB2. The metal binder contains one or more among Zr, Nb and Mo as the 1st group, Ni and/or Co as the 2nd group and Al and/ or Si as the 3d group. A sintered body obtd. by sintering this alloy at high temp. and super high pressure is bonded to a sintered hard alloy substrate or the like and used.
