Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound from carbon oxide and hydrogen, in high selectivity at a low cost, by the use of a catalyst composed of an easily available Rh salt, zirconium oxide, and at least one metal selected from Nb, Ta, Cr, Mn and Re.
CONSTITUTION: Oxygen-containing compounds composed mainly of ethanol are obtained from carbon oxide (carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide) available in large quantity at a low cost, and hydrogen, by using a catalyst composed of rhodium, at least one metal selected from niobium tantalum, chromium, manganese, and rhenium, and zirconium oxide. The weight ratio of the former two metals to zirconium oxide is pref. 50W0.0001%, and that of the rhodium to the metal selected from niobium, tantalum, etc. is pref. 10:1W1:10.
USE: Blending composition for fuel gas or gasoline. (Saves the oil resources).
