PURPOSE: To obtain formylated phenoxy compounds in high yields by oxidizing methylsubstituted phenoxy compounds with the pressurized oxygen in a liquid phase under heating in the presence of (a) a lower fatty acid or its anhydride and (b) a specific amount of a catalyst consisting of one or more compounds of Co, Mn, Cr and/or Ni.
