Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently crystallize phosphate in water by adding calcium carbonate seed crystals when the phosphate in removed by contact with calcium phosphate- contg. seed crystals in the presence of Ca ion.
CONSTITUTION: Calcium carbonate particles or slaked lime contg. calcium carbonate fine crystals deposited by contact with air is used as calcium carbonate seed crystals. A calcium agent such as calcium chloride and/or an alkali agent such as sodium hydroxide is added to phosphate-contg. water to prepare conditions (≤7pH) where calcium carbonate is not dissolved, and such calcium carbonate seed crystals are added to the water. The crystals-added water is then brought into contact with calcium phosphate-contg. seed crystals such as hydroxyapatite, fluoroapatite or tricalcium phosphate. By this method calcium carbonate depositing in treatment is disposited on the added calcium carbonate seed crystals, so that activity of the calcium phosphate-contg. seed crystals is prevented from lowering.
