Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently remove suspended solids in raw water and crystallize phosphate in the water by passing the water through a calcium phosphate-contg. granular filter medium in the presence of Ca ions and allowing the filtered water to contact to a Ca agent.
CONSTITUTION: To water contg. phosphate and suspended solids such as secondarily treated sewage are added Ca ions such as an aqueous calcium chloride soln., and the water is passed through a bed packed with a granular filter medium made of calcium phosphate-contg. seed crystal such as hydroxyapatite. The filtered water is pH adjusted with a Ca agent such as calcium chloride or an alkali agent such as sodium hydroxide, and then the water is passed through a calcium phosphate- contg. seed crystal packed layer again. Thus, the phosphate in the water is crystallized by contact to the seed crystal. By this method the phosphate causng eutrophication can be removed with high efficiency together with the suspended solids.
