Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare (meth)acrylamide efficiently under relatively mild conditions, by treating (meth)acrylonitrile with a specific enzyme.
CONSTITUTION: N-771 Strain (FERM-P 4445) belonging to the genus Corynebacterium, N-775 strain (FERM-P 4447) belonging to the genus Nocardia etc. is cultivated in an ordinary medium in pH6W9 at 25W30°C for 1W5 days aerobically to give an enzyme capable of hydrating (meth)acrylonitrile. The enzyme is reacted with (meth)acrylonitrile in an aqueous solution or suspension in pH7W9 at 25W 30°C for 0.5W10hr with slow stirring to give a reaction solution, from which the mold is removed by centrifugation to prepare a filtrate. Colored substances, impurities, etc. are removed from the filtrate, which is concentrated under reduced pressure to give (meth)acrylamide.
