Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a printer of high resolution, high speed, and low cost, by arranging between a writing electrode part, and a backside electrode and applying a fixed voltage to control electrodes and the backside electrode, and a writing signal voltage to the writing electrode part. CONSTITUTION:Writing electrode part 51 has linear electrodes 52 and moves cyclically, and electrostatic recording material 54 is arranged between part 51 and lower electrode 53, and dielectric breakdown voltage is applied between electrodes 52 and electrode 53. Aerial discharge is caused near the shortest gap between them, the discharge space extends in the longitudinal direction of writing electrodes 51, and the static charge left on material 54 has a long distribution along electrodes 51. In order to prevent this longitudinal extension, voltage same in polarity as electrodes 51 is biased to control electrodes 55, and an electric field between electrodes 51 and electrode 53 is converged, thus permitting a static charge spot to occur on material 54, and a dotted image to be obtained by toner development.
