Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the breakdown of anion exchange membrane and the occurrence of scaling for permitting the long-term stable operation of an electric dializer by using an auxiliary electrode and by applying DC current in the same direction as the electrifying part to a concentrated liquid through hole for the desalination and concentration of the sea water.
CONSTITUTION: A concentrated liquid through hole is provided with the auxiliary electrode chamber 15 in which the auxiliary electrode 16 is provided. An electrode water is flowed in the auxiliary electrode chamber 15, and DC current is concurrently applied between the electrode of the electrifying part and the auxiliary electrodes. In the beginning of an electric dialysis as in cases where batchwise desalination, for example, is conducted, the application of current between the auxiliary electrodes is stopped during a period when the liquid resistance ratio of diluted liquid to concentrated liquid is small, whereas current is applied during a period when the liquid resistance ratio is greater.
