Abstract
PURPOSE:To control generation of noise waves due to spark of a spark ignition distributor of an internal combustion engine, by applying a matter which radiates ultraviolet rays as it is impressed with electric field to at least either one of spark discharge units of rotor and stator electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A rotor 2, composed of a rotor electrode 3 and insulator 4, is fitted to a cam shaft 2 which is rotated in connection with a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. The spark discharge unit of the rotor electrode 3 is coated with a fluorescent matter 11. When high tension from an ignition coil is applied to the rotor electrode 3 and a stator electrode 6, dielectric breakdown of air takes place in a discharge gap G to generate a spark discharge. Since the fluorescent matter 11 with afterglow radiates ultraviolet rays due to the high electric field applied just before the discharge to reduce discharge voltage and mitigate unevenness of discharge voltage, the peak value of capacity discharge current is reduced to smooth its building-up and control generation of noise waves.
