Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove foreign matter with a less amount of cooling sea water by providing a guide plate right after the butterfly valve directly connected to the inlet side of a foreign matter removing device to form the flow passages parting to the right and left thereby accelerating the swirling water flow.

CONSTITUTION: At the time of removing foreign matter such as marine living things flowing into a foreign matter removing device 4, a butterfly valve 30 is fully opened to lead main water flow to the flow passage parted by a guide plate 15. At the same time, the water flow is led into said flow passage even through the gap between the valve 30 and the plate 15 owing to the pressure difference between the front and back of the plate 15, so that the swirling water flow along the filter 14 is produced. In addition, fluid pressure losses are decreased by the valve 30, and further, a casing 10 and filter 14 of a circular conical cylinder shape gather the foreign matter 40 having flowed therein to the leading end side of their conical annular flow passages and discharge the same from a discharge pipe 13. Hence, at the removing of foreign matter, the foreign matter flow and gather toward the pipe 13 side; hence the foreign matter may be removed with a less amount of cooling water. In addition, the clogged foreign matter is stripped and removed from the filter 14 surface while maintaining the gathering action of the foreign matter by inverting the valve 30 thereby giving the reverse swirling water flow.
