Abstract

PURPOSE: An adsorbent which is obtained by adding and mixing neutral silica sol to various slurry materials such as sludge to gel the materials then dehydrating and heating the same and which has superior performances equivalent to those of active carbon and zeolite.
CONSTITUTION: Sodium silicate as a base is added with an acidic agent such as sulfuric acid to make silica sol which is neutral and has reaction activity. The thus prepared sol is added to slurry materials such as sludge. This mixture is sufficiently agitated and heated to accelerate gelling. The thus obtained moisture-contg. gellike material is dehydrated by pressurizing or centrifugal force to have lower moisture contents and to be made to dehydrated cake. This cake is heated or dried under the direct sunlight, whereby the stable solid adsorbent of a grit form having ion exchangeability and adsorptivity is obtained.
