Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain activated carbon having high activity almost close to that of fresh carbon by mixing wood dust impregnated with chemicals for activation with used powdered activated carbon and calcining the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: Wood dust is impregnated with chemicals for activation such as zinc chloride or hydrochloric acid by about 100W400pts.wt. on the basis of 100% purity chemicals to 100pts.wt. wood dust on the basis of dry matter, and the impregnated wood dust is mixed with used powdered activated carbon by ≥ about 40pts.wt. on the basis of dry matter to 100pts.wt. activated carbon on the basis of dry matter. By agitating the mixture while keeping it an 100W200°C, granulation can be accelerated. The mixture is then heated to 500W700°C by an ordinary method, whereby substances adsorbed on the used carbon are decomposed and removed, and the carbon is regenerated to activated carbon having adsorbing power. Simultaneously, the wood dust is converted into activated carbon by activation. They are washed, dried, and optionally pulverized to obtain product activated carbon.
