Abstract
PURPOSE: To miniaturize an entire transmission system and simplify a hydraulic control device by a method weherein the automatic transmission for an automobile and the like is constituted so that the speed-change gearing of the 2nd gear transmission is shifted only when the 4th-speed stage is to be obtained and thus the speed- change stages of four-stage forward and one-stage backward gearing are achieved.
CONSTITUTION: In the range D4 the 1st, 2nd the 3rd speed-change stages are achieved by the speed-change gearing of the 1st gear transmission 34. Meanwhile, as for the 2nd gear transmission 60, a brake 12 is released, a one-way clutch is locked, and thus the device 60 is not geared for change of speed. By making a hydraulic control device operate manually or automatically to supply the oil pressure to a clutch 84 under the condition that the speed-change stage for high speed is achieved in the 1st gear transmission 34 and putting the clutch 84 in the state of engagement, the speed-change stage directly coupled to the 2nd gear transmission 60 is achieved and thereby obtaining the maximum-speed stage (the 4th state).
