Abstract

PURPOSE: To dispense with the clutch-to-clutch hydraulic control unit and prevent shock of gear shift by adding single directional clutches to the combination of engaging and disengaging of clutches and brakes of the planetary gear transmission.
CONSTITUTION: When an input shaft 8 is driven with a clutch 22 engaged, a single directional clutch 24 is automatically engaged to establish the first gear speed. To make engine brake function, a brake 25 is engaged. By bringing a brake 35 into engagement in addition to the clutch 22, a single directional clutch 36 is automatically engaged to establish the second gear speed. To make engine brake function, a brake 28 is engaged. Engagement of a clutch 23 makes a single directional clutch 37 automatically engaged to establish the third gear speed. When a brake 28 is engaged in addition to the clutch 23, the over-drive gear transmission is established. When a clutch 25 and a brake 27 are meshed, the reverse mesh is accomplished.
