Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve overdriving without adversely affecting other transmission gear trains by arranging one of planetary gears to be mounted to a gear transmission so that transmission ratio thereof gives a value less than 1.
CONSTITUTION: In an automatic transmission connected to a torque converter 2 in which a widely known transmission gear device 100 with three steps forward and one step backward is connected to a power shaft 1 of a prime mover, a subtransmission 200 is interposed between the torque converter 2 and the transmission gear device 100. The subtransmission 200 has a planetary gear mechanism 8 in which a ring gear 23 is connected to an output shaft 4. In the planetary gear mechanism 8, a sun gear 21 is connected removably to the ring gear 23 with a clutch 11 while the sun gear 21 is under the control of a brake 14. In addition, a one-way clutch 20 is provided between the ring gear 23 and the sun gear 21. While the sun gear 21 is braked, the configuration is designated to make the ring gear 23 over-runs the sun gear 21.
