Abstract
PURPOSE:To greatly improve the buckling limit of the slab, and to make the large edging possible, by installing near the vertical rolls the upper and lower push rolls possible to adjust their roll gap in the thickness direction. CONSTITUTION:The roll gap of the vertical rolls 1, 1 is set to the aim sheet breadth by the authorized method; the upper push roll 2a is elevated by the hydraulic cylinder 9; the roll gap of the upper and lower push rolls 2a, 2b is set to the thickness of the slab 3 to be fed to the vertical rolling mill; and the pressure liquid is supplied to the cylinder 8 through the pipe lines 9, 10 in order to restrain the vertical motion of the upper push roll 2a. Besides, the lower push roll 2b is fixed so as to align the top of the lower push roll 2b to the level of the pass line. The slab 3 is edged by the vertical rolls 1, 1, and hereby the breadth of the slab 3 becomes the specified value; this slab 3 is fed to the horizontal rolling mill and is rolled to the specified thickness. When the thickness-breadth ratio of the slab 3 becomes large, the slab 3 tends to cause the buckling in the direction of breadth; however, this buckling is prevented by the push rolls 2a, 2b. Accordingly, the rolling reduction in the breadth can be increased.
