Abstract

PURPOSE:To recover the nonrecording ink droplets without enlarging the ink-recovering zone of a gutter, by a method wherein a switching control means for the on-off control of the electric field between deflecting electrodes is provided, and the ink droplets are not deflected except for during the travel for recording of a printing head. CONSTITUTION:The high-voltage power source 12 for impressing a high voltage between the deflecting electrodes 9 is provided with a switching means 13 for conducting the on-off control. The control through the switching means 13 turns on the power to establish the electric field of a high intensity between the deflecting electrodes 9 during the travel for printing of the printing head 1, while turning off the power to stop the deflecting effect of the electrodes 9 during the period other than that mentioned above. Since the deflecting effect is provided only during the travel for printing of the head 1, all the nonprinting ink droplets are recovered in a predetermined gutter position, allowing a gutter with a narrow ink-recovering zone to suffice. In addition, since the ink droplets do not impinge upon the vertical walls of the gutter, the generation of ink mist and the malicious effect thereof can be prevented.
