Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate any inferiority of a spiral-plate battery by inserting a heated tapered metal bar into a space in the center of the spiral plate of the battery to cause a separator in the center of the plate to be transformed by heat, inserting a welding electrode in the center space, and thus enabling the easy insertion of the welding electrode into the center space. CONSTITUTION:A heated metal bar 4 is inserted into a space 2 which is in the center of a spiral assembled element 1; a separator 3 crosses the space 2. In this occasion, the metal bar 4 and a heating part 10 are hung from an air cylinder 12 through a spring 11, and the metal bar 4 is inserted into the space by driving the air cylinder 12. Because it is preferred that the insertion load is gradually increased from zero in proportion to the insertion resistance. As a result, the separator 3 is transformed by heat, thereby the center space of the assembled element being enlarged. This enables the easy insertion of a welding electrode into the center space to cause the negative terminal and metal case of a battery to be welded.
