Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure with excellent precision the hydrocarbon containing the oxygen-containing hydrocarbon in the open air or in the combustion exhaust gas by detecting the same by using an flame ionization detector (FID) after passing it through a reduction reactor.
CONSTITUTION: The sample gas filled in a measuring tube L is introduced, by operating a cock V, into the flow of the carrier gas led in from a flow-in port 3, and is further introduced into the 1st column C1, where only O2, CH4, CO and CO2 are passed. Then, it is introduced into FID through the 2nd column C2, thus CH4 being detected. Next, the cock V being switched over, the nonmethane hydrocarbon remaining in the 1st column C1 is flushed back and introduced into a hydrogen- adding reactor (a reduction reactor) 5 together with the hydrogen gas introduced from a flow-in port 4 and the hydrocarbon containing the oxygen is reduced into the hydrocarbon in the narrow sense of term, and then the whole of the hydrocarbon is detected by FID.
