Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of synthetic resins etc., economically, in high yield, in a state collectable with conventional condensers, by the thermal cleavage of an oligomer of alkenylaniline essentially free of phenol, in the presence of a solid acid catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An alkenylaniline of formula (R1,2 are H, methyl, etc.; R3,4 are H or 1W4C alkyl; R5,6 are H, methyl, etc.; R7 is methyl, ethyl or together with R5 and R6 form alicyclic alkenyl) is prepared by the thermal cleavage of an oligomer of an alkenylaniline at 150W300°C in the presence of a solid acid catalyst such as activated clay, acidic clay, synthetic zeolite, silica-alumina, etc. The oligomer of an alkenylaniline means a mixture composed mainly of the dimer or trimer of alkenylaniline and containing monomer and other eligomers having a polymerization degree of 4 or more as minor components, e.g. the mixture obtained by the heat decomposition of a bis-aminophenyl-alkane in the presence of an acid catalyst.
