Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve productivity by a method wherein an oil pump dirving gear is divided into two and engaged with a cam shaft body, and the divided gears are jointed together through welding to form an oil pump driving gear unit of different material on the cam shaft body.
CONSTITUTION: To provide an oil pump driving gear unit of different material like steel or such material as is superior in wear resistance on a cam shaft body 1 of a casting with cams 2... and bearings 3... formed solidly, the gear unit is formed of two-divided gears 41, 42 having interfaces which conform to the cam shaft body 1. Then, the two-divided gears 41, 42 are mounted on the cam shaft body 1, machined and subjected locally to a high frequency hardening. The mounting is optimized by an electron beam welding because of less thermal influence, and welded layers 61, 62 will have to include interfaces 43W46 and adjacencies 15, 16 to the cam shaft.
