Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture MnCl2 of superior quality by neutralizing a soln. of ferromanganese slag in sulfuric acid to remove impurities, adding CaCl2 to the resulting soln., concentrating the soln. to remove CaSO4 deposited, and further concentrating the soln.
CONSTITUTION: Sulfuric acid is added to an aqueous slurry of ferromanganese slag finely pulverized to ≤200 mesh to dissolve the slag, and this soln. is adjusted to 6.0W8.5pH with alkali. By blowing air or oxygen-contg. gas, divalent iron is converted into trivalent iron, and the iron and heavy metals are precipitated as hydroxides, which are separated by filtration. To the filtrate is added an aqueous CaCl2 soln. in an amount required to convert MnSO4 and ZnSO4 into chlorides, and the filtrate is concd. just until MnCl2 crystals begin to deposit. After removing CaSO4 deposited by filtration, the filtrate is further concd. to crystallize MnCl2. This MnCl2 is centrifugally separated and washed. The washing liq. is discharged from the system. Thus, MnCl2 crystals are obtd.
