Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an excellent adsorbent to remove or reduce COD and color from waste water, water-crushed slag is dissolved in aqueous inorganic acid solution, made alkaline, and produced precipitate is filtered, washed, dried, and pulverized.
CONSTITUTION: Water crushed slag from a steel-making furnace is dissolved in aqueous solution of inorganic aicd such as hydrocholid and sulfuric acid, preferably 14g of water-crushed slag in 100ml of 4N-HCl at room temperature. The solution is added with aqueous NaOH solution to about pH 10, and produced precipitate is filtered, washed with water, dehydrated, dried, and either pulverized or fired at 300 to 900°C, preferably at 400 to 600°C to provide adsorbent.
