Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst support having a great specific strength and excellent wear resistance by a method in which alumina granules are baked and then treated with a caustic alkali aqueous solution.
CONSTITUTION: Hydrated alumina, e.g., aluminum hydroxide, is partially dehydrated, ground as needed, mixed with an additive, e.g., cellulose, etc., as needed, and then granulated. Then, the granules thus obtained are baked at a comparatively low temperature of approx. 1,000°C or lower and then cured in a caustic alkali aqueous solution, e.g., of NaOH, etc., followed by drying and baking.
