Abstract

Formed synthetic crystalline zeolite bodies are hardened with a binding agent comprising an oxide, hydroxide, or basic salt of an alkaline earth metal. The bodies may be formed by mixing a synthetic crystalline zeolite powder with one of (a) an aqueous dispersion of an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide, (b) an aqueous solution of an alkaline earth metal salt mixed with an alkali metal hydroxide, (c) a slurry of an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide mixed with an acid, or (d) an aqueous mixture of an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide and an alkaline earth metal salt. The binding agent may comprise from 5% to 40% by weight of the solid formed body, and the synthetic crystalline zeolite powder may comprise from 20% to 30% by weight of the said body. The mixture may be dried, preferably in a mould, at a temperature of up to 400 DEG C. The formed bodies may be reacted with calcium chloride solution, washed with water, dried at 150-200 DEG C. followed by dehydration at 300-350 DEG C. under reduced pressure.ALSO:Formed synthetic crystalline zeolite bodies are hardened with a binding agent comprising an oxide, hydroxide, or basic salt of an alkaline earth metal. They may be used for separation of straight chain paraffins from hydrocarbon mixtures.
