Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture finely divided silver oxide of high grade by filtering ions dissolved in a silver oxide sol, formed by reacting a silver salt with a caustic alkali in the form of aq. solns., followed by mixing with water again, solation, freezing and sublimation removal of water.
CONSTITUTION: To an aq. soln. of a sol. silver salt such as AgNO3 is added a stoichiometrically slightly excess amt. of an aq. soln. of a caustic alkali such as KOH. and they are reacted with stirring. Clean precipitates are separated from the reaction soln., mixed into pure water again, repulped to a suspended state, filtered, and washed with water. The resulting precipitates are further mixed with water and repulped. A mixt. of the repulped precipitates and water is freeze-dried, that is, held in a freezed state with a refrigerant, a freezer or the like and treated in a vacuum to sublime water. The temp. is practically -30W-70°C. Thus, finely divided silver oxide is obtd.
