Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent abnormal temperature rise in a fluidized layer by the shut- down of a thermal decomposition furnace, to use the residual carbon in the fluidized layer at restart of the operation as auxiliary fuel, and to effect energy saving at start of the operation by a method wherein part of waste gas is circulated and is formed into fluidized gas.
CONSTITUTION: At the shut-down of a fluidized thermal decomposition furnace 5 which is used for thermal decomposition of urban solid waste 1, part of waste gas is sucked by a blower 24, the circulation quantity of the waste gas is increased by gradually closing a control valve 25 while monitoring a gas flow meter 22, and the supply quantity of air 8 is decreased at the same time. When the circulation quantity of the waste gas has reached the quantity enough to form a fluidized layer, the air 8 is completely stopped. This operation is performed in several minutes. Because the waste gas hardly contains oxygen, char 10 does not burn and remains in the fluidized layer, and, as a result, can be used as effective heat source at restart of the operation. Because the combustion of char 10 is controlled at the shut-down, abnormal temperature rise in the fluidized layer can be prevented.
