Abstract

PURPOSE:To lower the fuel gas temp. supplied to a battery by raising the battery temp. with hot air to a certain level, stopping the rise of the temp., supplying the fuel gas directly to the fuel line, performing load temp. rise, and raising to the specified service temp. of the battery. CONSTITUTION:A modified fuel gas is supplied to aq startup burner 7, combusted, and sent to the reaction air line P and the cooling line C. A passage chamber 12 is formed at the back of an air outlet side manifold 10 of a battery and filled with a water adsorbent 13. When the battery temp. rises to 40-50 deg.C, the modified gas is passed to the fuel line N via this passage chamber 12, and the water contained in the fuel gas is removed by the absorbent 13 to a great extent, and temp. rise by the reaction heat, i.e. load temp. rise, is commenced between the air in the circulating gas and the fuel gas. When the battery temp. rises to 100 deg.C, the temp. rise by the combustion gas of the startup burner 7 is stopped, and the modified gas is supplied directly to the fuel line N without passage through the chamber 12, and the load temp. rise is continued. This enables load temp. rise from low temp. without causing trouble to the battery, and the fuel gas supply temp. can be lowered to a certain minor extent.
