Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily replenish the shortage of heat value without the use of a start burner during cell operation by installing a combustion improving fuel supply means and pouring combustion improving fuel in a liquid state into an exhaust air flow from the outside. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust fuel gas from an exhaust fuel gas line 13 is burned in a catalytic combustor 7 by using the exhaust air from an exhaust air pipeline 14 as an oxidizing agent. Heat generated there is supplied to a reformer 2 to reform fuel such as methanol into hydrogen rich fuel. A methanol branch line equipped with valve 17 is connected to the pipeline 14 through a combustion improving fuel supply nozzle 15 which is a combustion improving fuel supply means, and methanol which is combustion improving fuel is supplied in a liquid state to exhaust air. The shortage of heat value supplied to the reformer 2 is easily replenished without the use of a start burner 6 to steadily operate a fuel cell.
