Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to detect the cause of the runaway of microprogram μPG in its early stage via additional circuits by dividing a control memory, stored with μPG, into blocks and by employing double contitution for the operand of a branch instruction.
CONSTITUTION: Control memory 1 stored with μPG is divided into blocks of certain size and a branch instruction is constituted as an operand being given a branch destination block number in addition to the address of a branch destination. As additional circuits, block number register 8 which holds the block number of an address input for access to memory 1, block number comparing circuit 12 which compares the held block number to an input block number, and block end detecting circuit 9 which detects a change in block are provided. Through those additiona circuits, a check on blocks is made at every time of the execution of μPG, and consequently the abnormality of the sequence of μPG can be found, block by block, so that the analysis of the cause of a fault and recovery processing can be simplified.
