Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform dephosphorization with molten slag of less FeO content and decrease the loss of Mn in the molten slag in an oxygen top blowing converter having a bottom blowing function, by intensifying the agitating of the molten slag and molten metal owing to bottom blowing and making the basicity of the molten slag at the specific value.
CONSTITUTION: In performing steel making refining in an oxygen top blowing converter provided with bottom blowing lances, the basicity of molten slag is made ≥2.3, and oxygen is blown through bottom blowing lances to cause sufficient contacting of molten metal and molten slag. The sufficient reaction takes place between the molten metal and the molten slag, and even if the FeO content in the molten slag is relatively small as much as about 6W15% as T, Fe, the oxidation dephos- phorization reaction of P is sufficiently accelerated. The small contents of T, Fe in the molten slag result in (%MnO)=KMn'×(%T, Fe)[%Mn] from the formula [I] and since the value of (%T, Fe) is small, (%MnO) becomes small and the greater portion thereof is recovered into the molten metal.
