Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the core center of optical fiber automatically in a short time with high precision by calculating the core center of optical fiber from outputs of a linear line scanner and a detector that detects movement perpendicular to a scanning direction.
CONSTITUTION: The analog output signal of linear line scanner 4 is input to input terminal 12 and then by coded by comparator part 13 into a binary signal, which is waveform-shaped from waveform 15 to waveform 16. Next, signal width detection part 17 detects initial rising pulse 18 in waveform 16 and last falling pulse 19 and then inputs addresses of both signals to terminal 20. Uniaxial table 7, on the other hand, moves linear line scanner 4 at right angles to its scanning direction and its movement position is detected by position detector 8, whose output is sent to terminal 21. From signals from terminals 20 and 21, arithmetic part 22 calculates the core center of optical fiber and displays the result on display part 23. Thus, the core center of optical fiber can be measured in a short time with high precision.
