Abstract
PURPOSE: A bacterium which belongs to Micromonospora and produces an antibiotic, SF-2052, is cultured and the antibiotic is collected from the culture mixture, thus producing an antibiotic SF-2052 showing high antibiotic activity against Gram- positive and -negative bacteria.
CONSTITUTION: Actinomycetes SF-2098, which belongs to Micromonospora, is cultured in a medium containing nutritions which general microorganisms can assimilate and SF-2052 is accumulated. Then, SF-2052 is isolated and purified by usual operation used to purify water-soluble and basic antibiotics. As the culture process, liquid, especially submerged culture is the most preferred. The incubation is effected aerobically, the temperature is 25W45°C, the pH is neutral or weak- alkaline. When the bacterium is cultured for 3W10 days usually, SF-2052 is produced and accumulated in the medium.
