Abstract

PURPOSE: To read convex braille points accurately by making use of the position shift of a spot generated when an uneven surface body is irradiated with a spot of slanting light.
CONSTITUTION: Light from light source 5 is reduced by slit 6 and strikes braille paper 4 slantingly and a read system or the braille papter is moved to scan braille paper 4 by the light. Then, when the circumference of the peak of convex point 7 of a braille point is irradiated with spot 50 of light, bright point 50 agrees with detection position 90 of photodetector 9, detecting convex point 7. When spot 50 of light scans where no convex part resides, the position of spot 50 disagrees with detection position 90, so that bright point 50 will not be detected. Further, even if scribbling and spot reside, they are never detected. Additionally, concave part 71 is not detected in the same way. Thus, only convex parts become bright and can clearly be discriminated from other parts.
