Abstract
PURPOSE:To conduct a continuous treatment of foamed polystyrene efficiency and safely without causing secondary public pollusions due to noxious gases by a method wherein a measured amount of foamed polystyrene lumps is charged into a heat transfer oil while crushing the lumps, to cause the foamed polystyrene to undergo thermal shrinkage, then the shrinked foamed polystyrene is taken out of the oil and sprayed with the heat transfer oil from above. CONSTITUTION:A hopper 6 provided with a chipper 7 is arranged directly above an oil sump 5 of an oil pan 3, and a measured amount of foamed polystyrene lumps a is charged into a heat transfer oil 4 while crushing the lumps a into smaller chips a'. The foamed polystyrene 1' readily undergoes thermal shrinkage at a low temperature (140-170 deg.C) and pelletized b. The pellets b are carried out of the heat transfer oil 4 by a belt conveyor 8 sequentially and continuously, while the heat transfer oil is sprayed by a sprayer 9 onto the pellets b for completing the thermal shrinkage, and the foamed polystyrene is recovered in the form of pellets c being dropped into a recovering container 11.
